HE Dr Mohamed Muizzu discusses Maldives’ foreign policy priorities as a SIDS on Climate Action, Sustainability and Multilateralism in a Changing World.

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, joins the Royal Institute of International Affairs to discuss how the Maldives is responding to challenges from existential climate risks and an uncertain era of global politics, opportunities for tourism and financing for development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and the future of the Maldives.

President Dr. Muizzu will offer insights into the Maldives’ climate diplomacy, its role in strengthening multilateral institutions, and the country’s advocacy for increased international financing for sustainable development. The discussion will also examine the complexity of the global politics, strategic positioning and how SIDS like the Maldives navigate global competition while advancing climate action, technological innovation, and financing for development.

As a leading voice from one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable nations, President Dr. Muizzu brings a critical perspective to the global dialogue on climate action, development, democratic resilience and the need for strengthened multilateral cooperation in the face of crises – from climate change to ongoing global conflicts including the war in Gaza.
