Man declared dead after being pulled from Channel

Rescuers in France find 25 other people on board boat in trouble and five others on sandbank

A man has died after a boat believed to be crossing the Channel got into difficulty off the French coast.

The French authorities confirmed the man had been declared dead after being pulled from the water. A total of 32 people were rescued off Berck, near Calais, in a state of hypothermia. They included five who were found stranded on a sandbank. The remaining 25 were found on board the boat by rescue teams.
